Game Center CX tackles the historical 53 stations of the Tokaido route in this episode

This episode of Game Center CX features the Sunsoft game 53 Stations of the Tokaido. There were originally 53 stations along the Tokaido at which travelers would have to present permits allowing them to cross. The Kacho will be tackling Sunsoft’s Japanese game 東海道五十三次 or Tokaido Gojusan Tsugi which roughly translates as the 53 Stations of the Tokaido.

In the game you play as Kantaro who has learned how to make fireworks in Kyoto and is now on his journey home to Edo to see his wife Momoko. Kantaro defends himself from the evil merchant Gozaemon by throwing grenades at his henchmen, or by planting grenades in the ground. Sounds simple, right? The game has 21 stages, each of which is a different variation of hell I’m sure.

Japanese games are no joke, especially Sunsoft games. This game was rereleased on the virtual console for Wii in Japan, but I doubt it will ever see the light of day here. You can join the Kacho on this quest or perhaps find other means to ahem play the game. I’m not suggesting anything, because Google is already there to do it for me.
