Russian mafia boss Aslan Usoyan, a 75-year-old gangster nicknamed Grandpa Khasan, was shot in the head by a sniper atop the sixth floor of an adjacent building according to a Russian Investigative Committee report.
Usoyan later died at a hospital, leaving his organization leaderless, leading law-enforcement officials to fear for the outbreak of a violent turf war.
Aslan Usoyan was allegedly involved in a number of protection rackets as well as construction and prostitution.
He reportedly held an iron grip on the Russian vacation city of Sochi, also the location of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
First involved with crime at the age of 19 years, Usoyan became heavily involved during the Gorbachev-era of Soviet rule when he would offer protection to black market merchants.
