Shinji Mikami’s Resident Evil series is well known by fans, having invented the survival horror genre in the 1990s, but later installments have changed up the traditional formula quite significantly, so much so that many current Resident Evil games are more like action movies than their B-movie horror fare inspiration. Bethesda, publisher of the Fall Out and The Elder Scrolls series of games, has taken former Capcom designer Shinji Mikami on board and given him the wherewithal to construct his new, utterly terrifying vision of what survival horror is and should be. The Evil Within (サイコブレイク in Japanese) holds to a lot of tropes familiar to fans of Japanese horror, namely, horrific imagery that blends the demonic and the masochistic. Look for this terrifying survival horror adventure in 2014, just in time for the new consoles.
