While winter is nothing but harsh thus far, it has allowed me to catch up on some of the television shows I have wanted to watch for months but haven’t had the time to dedicate to it. Claymore, based on the Japanese manga of the same name, is a thoroughly enjoyable action-based anime that recalls the action and character development of series like Cowboy Bebop but without as much depth or coherence.
The beginning of the series was a bit of a struggle and the end was disappointing, although it seems that the anime and the manga differ greatly and the anime was solid enough to make me want to find out more. This series has everything action and fantasy fans could want, albeit sans a satisfying conclusion. Above is a clip from Teresa’s story and it is spoiler heavy so watch at your own risk. It is also the single scene that solidifies this anime as one of the best I’ve seen, even with its flaws. Teresa is perhaps one of the strongest and most interesting characters I’ve encountered in anime or in general and I would definitely like to know more about the world in which the Claymore live.
