Indianapolis Union Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones receiving death threats after saying Trump was “lying his ass off” about the Carrier deal
Donald Trump Goes After Union Boss on Twitter
Chuck Jones, President of Union Steelworkers Local 1999, has received threats from devoted Trump supporters after his comments on Tuesday that said US President-elect Donald Trump was “lying his ass off” about saving jobs in the Carrier “deal” Jones claims he has received phone calls asking him if he has children and to watch his back. After making the comments on CNN’s Erin Burnett show, Trump tweeted a response to Chuck Jones saying, “Chuck Jones, who is President of United Steelworkers 1999, has done a terrible job representing workers. No wonder companies flee country!”

In response, Chuck Jones told Erin Burnett in a follow-up call: “I don’t put a whole hell lot of faith in whatever he says…I just don’t pay a hell of a lot of attention to him,” and reiterated his hope that Donald Trump would save the 550 jobs his “deal” did not protect. “I didn’t attack him; I just called him out on where I felt he misled the people—and if he doesn’t like it, that’s just tough as far as I’m concerned.” The Union president said he would be willing to work with anyone to keep jobs in the United States, including incoming President Donald Trump.
In response, several journalists have expressed dismay and shock at Trump’s response to the Union president, further discrediting their abilities of perception as this behavior is nothing new to anyone who has observed the Trump campaign since its inception:
I cannot wrap my head around the fact that the President Elect just publicly slammed an Indiana steelworker just for criticizing him. Scary.
